From chicken strips to do-it-yourself waffles, Whitney Dining provides a variety of meal options including vegetarian dishes to satisfy any appetite.

Say goodbye to home-cooked meals and hello to Whitney Dining, or good old "Whit Dining" as many have come to call it.

Conveniently located on campus beneath Whitney Hall, expect Whitney Dining to be filled with students in their sweats and pajamas - a very relaxed environment.

While the meal plan gives students the option of eating at a few other places on campus, Whitney Dining does its best to attract students with meal options resembling the ones a family might have at home.

While at first you might find yourself missing mom's chicken casserole, don't be surprised if you find yourself craving what the dining hall has to offer after a few weeks.

After spending my freshman year on the seventh floor of Whitney Hall, I have to admit, I developed a few cravings that even now only the dining hall can fulfill.

Though I never really warmed up to dinner choices at Whitney Dining, I can't complain about the selections the grill has to offer. You can never go wrong with chicken strips and fries, and I'll admit there was a period while living in the dorms when I ate nothing but grilled cheese sandwiches.

The dinner choices set out for students always looked a little iffy to me, but when you're starving that wariness starts to fade. And while the beef stroganoff may look a little slimy, the mashed potatoes aren't that bad.

It's all about finding what's not that bad and what's pretty good. The great thing about Whitney Dining is that there are always plenty of options.

One thing I always liked is that the sandwich bar is still available at dinner. So if tacos aren't looking too appealing, you can always whip yourself up a turkey sandwich.

The dining hall also includes vegetarian options at every meal, such as pasta primavera and spicy mandarin tofu. An open salad bar is also always available. Don't forget your veggies.

I'm sure one of the first things you'll notice are the soft serve ice cream machines, but don't go too crazy. Where do you think the "freshman 15" comes from?

Lunch is usually pretty good. It's basically your choice of pizza, corn dogs, macaroni and cheese or all of the above.

In my opinion, dinner at Whitney Dining isn't bad and lunch is even better, but breakfast is the best.

If you manage to get up before 11 a.m., you will smell the aroma of maple syrup and orange juice seeping out from under Whitney Hall.

The French toast sticks, dusted with powdered sugar, soon became a favorite of mine. Just dab them in some syrup and they're perfect.

And once again the grill takes great care of you, cooking up eggs any way you want them: scrambled, sunny side up, even into an omelet with your choice of meat and veggies.

My ideal breakfast includes French toast sticks, bacon or sausage, a cup of yogurt and granola, scrambled eggs and orange juice or milk.

I can tell you from my experiences Whitney Dining breakfast will become something worth getting up for.

Pancakes, tater tots, biscuits and gravy and breakfast burritos are available. And waffle irons are ready for do-it-yourself waffle making in the mornings.

And for those looking for something on the go, there are always stacks of bagels and English muffins conveniently located next to the toaster oven.
