After almost two years of debating on a salary increase, faculty members are finally getting what they wanted - an increase of 20.7 percent for the 2006 to 2010 contract cycle. The salary increase can rise to 24.87 percent to adjust for raises.
It's about time.
All the faculty has to do to ensure this salary increase - and that this mess is all over - is vote yes on the proposal made by the California State University administrators by Thursday. Then the contract will be on sent for approval by the CSU board of trustees.
So far everything looks good, and professors are saying they are happy with the proposal. This whole debacle, in which threats of a faculty strike were made, could finally be over.
The faculty has been through enough in the two years of debating with the administrators. The proposal should have been made quicker, such as before the threats of a strike were even mentioned.
If all goes well, though, students won't have to hear about any more mention of a strike. That's good because, in the end, a strike would only have hurt the students.
