The father of a Chico State student who was murdered in December announced during a press conference Tuesday that a $10,000 reward would be offered for information resulting in the arrest and conviction of the person who killed his son.
Junior Christopher Herrmann, a business major, was found dead from a gunshot wound at around 8: 30 p.m. on Dec. 5 in front of his house on Hazel Street.
Rick Herrmann, Christopher's father, said that he is confident someone has important information concerning the case.
"I think the standard answer is, 'I hope,' but I think someone will come forward," he said. "$10,000 is a lot of money."
In addition to the reward, there will be two billboards put up. One will be on Nord Avenue near Safeway and one on Park Avenue, Herrmann said. Also, fliers will be posted around Chico.
He said Christopher was a "caring friend, a loving son" and "a serious student."
"How dare someone, some murderer, take that away?" Herrmann said during a press conference held at the Chico Police Department.
Herrmann said he worked with Chico City Councilman Dan Herbert to get the council to pass a budget modification allowing the city manager to offer rewards of up to $10,000 in felony crimes.
Of the $10,000 reward being offered for Christopher's death, half is from the Herrmann family and the other half is from the city.
Police said no motive has been found for the murder, but acknowledged that illegal drugs were found in Christopher's house.
Police ask that anyone with information regarding Christopher's death call 895-4920.
