Romancing the woods

Love and nature go together hand in paw.

Books like "How to Have Sex in the Woods" and "52 Romantic Adventures" have sold thousands of copies, but do little to address one of the most important aspects of romance, the atmosphere.

And while daydreams of you and your significant other alone on a tropical island or by yourselves on an 18-day float through the Grand Canyon are quaint, for most people they are going to remain just that, dreams.

There are countless getaways for lovers seeking a private embrace close to Chico. With the right amount of research and pre-trip coordination, almost any typical weekend can be converted into an atypical romantic getaway to the outdoors.

For starters, picnics symbolize the standard lovers' luncheon in the outdoors. Why not go the extra mile and transport that checkered-cloth outing to a field of blooming wildflowers?

Getting plowed over by an out of control, acne-ridden teenage snowboarder takes the romance right out of a snowy getaway. Escape the masses and plow into the powder under the red fir forest's canopy.

Chico's proximity to the wilderness makes it an ideal place to launch into these and other romantic adventures.
