THE GOOD

Terminator:Salvation (FILM)
May 21, 2009

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I might think they leaked “Christian Bale screaming at the light guy” to generate buzz for this movie. I’m not a marketing genius, but this movie pretty much sells itself. It’s Batman shooting robot skeletons in a dusty, apocalyptic future. How could anyone not want to watch it?

Killapalooza (COMIC)
May 20, 2009

A rock band that moonlights as a super-powered black ops team? Eff yeah. Half a dozen dudes die in the first six pages and one guy gets his arm ripped off with telekinesis. Sweet.

THE BAD

Outlander (DVD)
May 19, 2009

A dude from the future hunts a giant alien with a bunch of vikings. Sounds like the raddest premise ever. But, they forgot to write a script. I’m sure they could have paid some NYU film student $300 and a burrito to rewrite the thing and it would have turned out a hundred times better.

Dance Flick (FILM)
May 22, 2009

Stop going to these movies, please. If you stop going, then they will stop making them. The studios don’t care what gets made as long as they get money. So stop giving them your money. And why even see this one? Dance movies are laughable enough already. Making a parody is redundant and wasteful. Aren’t we all going green?

THE UNDECIDED

Hannah Montana: The Movie
(PC GAME)
May 19, 2009

This struck me as an immediate “bad.” But, why am I so quick to judge? This Miley girl is popular enough to make millions of dollars, so maybe her game isn’t bad. It’s got minigames, exploration and multiple personalities. It’s like a college student. Except it costs more than $10 to take home.

“The High End of Low” Marilyn Manson (ALBUM)
May 26, 2009

Marilyn Manson has a pretty terrible reputation, despite the artistry of his work. I really wanted to slide this one up to the good section, but I fear Marilyn Manson is relying too heavily on his old tricks. I admire a man who adheres so firmly to what he believes, but it may be too late.
