New coach brings new expectations

After a raucous comeback win on Friday night, the Chico Outlaws took it to the St. George Roadrunners from the start on Saturday evening at Nettleton Stadium, winning 5-0. Starting pitcher Trevor Caughey, a former member of the Baltimore Orioles franchise, brought his A-game, delivering a complete game shutout: scattering only three hits over nine innings.

It took 4:46 into the first half of the Chico State women's soccer season opener against Notre Dame de Namur before Wildcat Brittney Doty pelted Chico's first goal of the game en route to a 5-0 win against the Argonauts. Another pair of goals was added before halftime by midfielder Kelsey Ikemoto and forward Molly McFadden as the Wildcats outworked their opponents with a total of 25 shots, seven of them on goal, compared to one shot by the Argonauts.

Despite a lackluster first half of play, the Wildcats rallied in a big way to bookend their preseason with another win, shutting out Holy Names University 3-0, Friday at home.

Coach leaves; assistant set to replace

After an exceptional season in which the women's basketball team went 28-6 overall and 17-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, head coach Molly Goodenbour left the Wildcats to become the head coach of the UC Irvine Anteaters. Goodenbour departs after two winning seasons at the helm of the Wildcats, which included last year's trip to the NCAA West Regional playoffs, where the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves unseated the CCAA champion Wildcats to end their magical season.

Redeem Team returns USA's basketball glory

The 2008 Olympic Games was a showcase of athleticism displaying the physical abilities of superstars from around the world. Michael Phelps won more gold medals in a summer than any other Olympian, Jamaica's Usain Bolt blazed on the track with three of his own gold medals and host-country China won 51 gold medals.
