In a physical match-up Chico State's women's soccer team came away with a tough earned 2-0 win against the hard-hitting Cal State Stanislaus Warriors.
The Wildcats mounted an offensive rush early in the game and came away with a goal just nine minutes into the game. Ashley Perlman scored her second goal of the season off a pass assist from forward Melissa Lindsay, and sent the ball over the left side shoulder of the goalie and into the net.
The Wildcat's offense sat on the backburner for a bit as the defense took heavy fire from the Warrior's top shooters Marissa Dunaway and Melissa Phillips.
Altogether the Wildcat defense held solidly against the mounting pressure of the Warrior attack, and spectacular saves by Wildcat goalie Natalie Bensky kept the Warrior's shooters at bay.
Frustration was apparent during the second half by the Warriors, as they could not find a way to penetrate the Wildcat defense and finish on an offensive opportunity.
The game was sealed when Ali Sward scored her third goal of the season as she shook two defenders before taking the goalie head-on and bending a shot into the upper-left V of the goal.
"It was rough out there and it was hard to hold onto the ball for long," Sward said. "But the goal felt great."
The Wildcats moved up to 6-4-2 record, with two consecutive wins in the CCAA.
Their next opportunity to increase their conference record is Friday against Cal State L.A. in Los Angeles.
