Chico State student Nicholas Laythe, 23, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of first degree robbery, police said.
Three men allegedly assaulted an unnamed victim and stole his wallet and cell phone at around 3 p.m. Saturday on Seventh Avenue and Walnut Street, according to a police department press release.
The police are not releasing the victim's name because there are still have two outstanding suspects, said Sgt. David Britt of the Chico Police Department.
"These types of robberies are fairly common," Britt said. "We have a few a week."
This situation was a little different than usual because the victim and suspect knew each other, and it happened in daylight, he said.
People targeted are usually intoxicated and walking alone in areas such as the railroad tracks, Britt said. To avoid being a victim of assault or robbery, Britt suggests walking in groups at night.
