Love, betrayal blur reality in Blue Room's 'Illusion'

Playwright Tony Kushner's adaptation of Pierre Corneille's French play "The Illusion" is hoping to work its magic with audiences at the Blue Room Theatre beginning 7:30 p.m. Thursday and running until Dec. 20. Kushner is best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Angels in America," which chronicles the lives of several people during the early years of the 1980s AIDS epidemic.

Instant Asshole chucks booze, finds name

One may be inclined to conjure images of unruly, beer-guzzling heathens and unsightly Mohawks when punk comes to mind, but what can be easily overlooked are the subtleties of a genre, a label and a culture many know little about. Despite its name, Oakland-based Instant Asshole is a punk band that subscribes to some, but not all, of these genre stereotypes.
