Chico State student Kyle Bartley is found dead in his room. The business student's death was ruled accidental after his autopsy results revealed a mix of cocaine, sleep aids and painkillers.
Sept. 12
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signs a bill that increases California minimum wage from $6.75 to $7.50 an hour on Jan. 1. The wage will increase to $8 an hour in 2008.
Sept. 29
Senate Bill 1454, also known as Matt's Law, increases hazing punishment from a misdemeanor to a felony in certain cases. Chico State student Matthew Carrington was pledging an unrecognized fraternity when he died of water intoxication in the fraternity's basement in 2005.
Oct. 4
Osazee Edebiri is elected commissioner of multicultural affairs in an Associated Students special election after Hector Najera resigned because he was not a legal U.S. resident.
Oct. 6
Tower Records' 89 stores are sold to the liquidator Great American Group after the business files for bankruptcy. Chico's store closed its doors two-and -a-half months later.
Nov. 16
Lloyd Murray is found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, dissuading a witness and assault likely to cause great bodily injury in the death of Chico State student Travis Williams. Williams, a sociology major, was killed in a fight outside the Holiday Inn in December 2005.

The campus radio station KCSC comes back on the air after being off the air for six months while it relocated. The station is available at www.KCSCradio.com.
Dec. 8
Graduate student Greg McFall, 59, dies after a battle with lung cancer. The sheet metal worker completed his bachelor's degree in sociology in May 2006.
Dec. 11
Chico State names Sandra Flake as the university's new provost and vice president for academic affairs. Scott McNall stepped down to assist the president in sustainability efforts. Flake started on April 2.
Dec. 14
Women's basketball head coach Molly Goodenbour removes Jennifer Borror and Erin O'Connor from the team, citing team dynamics. Haley Ford quit the team in protest. The university investigated Goodenbour over allegations of verbal abuse but found no evidence of abuse.
Jan. 1
University Chief of Police Leslie Deniz resigns after being placed on paid administrative leave Sept. 14. The university did not disclose the reason for her departure, and Lt. Eric Reichel took over her position.
Jan. 17
Political science professor Paul Persons dies of heart failure in a Long Beach hotel room while in town for a statewide Academic Senate meeting. Persons was also a supervising attorney for the Community Legal Information Center.
Jan. 25
President Paul Zingg co-teaches a class about the American university with religious studies professor Andrew Flescher. This was the first class taught by a Chico State president since before 1980.
Jan. 29
The health center sees 320 patients in nine hours in the midst of an eight-to-12 week flu epidemic. So many students were affected that professors were asked to take it easy on those who missed class.
Feb. 19
Veronica Guzman, 19, is found dead in her car in an irrigation canal along a rural section of the Midway. She had been missing for eight days. Police do not know what caused the accident, but it's possible the sociology major drifted off the road and over-corrected.
March 12
The women's basketball team is knocked out of the NCAA west regional by UC San Diego. Chico State was the only team from last year's Elite Eight to make it to regionals.
March 14
The College of Business suspends the Students in Free Enterprise group after underage members drank at a finance competition March 1 through 4. All SIFE meetings and events were canceled until at least fall 2007.
March 21
The California Faculty Association announces its vote to strike over a contract and salary dispute between the union and the California State University administration.
March 29
Amber Simmons sends a fax to local media announcing that she wants to transfer to another university because of unhappiness with coach Molly Goodenbour.
April 3
Senior Brian LeVenton, 30, is found dead from a suspected suicide at Butte Meadows Campground. The criminal justice major had been missing since March 28.
April 3
The faculty union and the California State University administrators make a tentative agreement for a 24.87 percent raise for the 2006 to 2010 academic years.
April 4
Construction workers finish fusing 805 tons of steel to complete the framework of the Student Services Center, which will act as a "one-stop shop" for students when it is completed in spring 2008.
April 7
Lecturer Mike Gillis passes away from liver complications after taking a leave of absence from teaching history.
April 11
Sal Esquivel is convicted and sentenced for 25 years to life in prison for the rape of a Chico State student in 1997.
April 16
The largest shooting spree in modern U.S. history occurs at Virginia Tech University. English major Seung-Hui Cho, 23, shot 32 students and faculty members before killing himself.
April 27
The university celebrates its 120th anniversary in front of the George Petersen Rose Garden with President Zingg, John and Annie Bidwell impersonators, cupcakes and the university pep band.
April 29
Sophomore Scott Bauhs breaks Chico State's record and posts the best time in Division II track and field in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 13 minutes, 40.63 seconds.
May 7
The union announces its almost-unanimous vote to accept the contract agreed upon by both the union and CSU administration.
