While waiting to interview Kathy Bristow my assumptions were reinforced. One student came in and explained he was a senior, graduating in December with a management information systems (MIS) degree. He needed to "find a job...or career," and he wasn't sure if he wanted to work in the MIS field.

Some seniors at Chico State seem to have a better idea of what direction they're moving in than others. Julia Bersinger, a French and communications major, is hoping to be a yoga instructor, and Bryce McAnally, a media arts senior and broadcast radio station employee, is already planning on starting out in commercials.

One student I spoke with plans on moving to Tacoma, Wash., and working for Hewlett Packard when she graduates. Melody Hayden is currently a junior majoring in electrical engineering. She admits there is still plenty of time to change her mind, and Bristow agrees she probably will.

You are not alone. Not only are there other seniors in your position, but there are also people who can help you. Remember that you are not the first person to go through this, and you should consider the ideas and professional advice from the resources available to you.

Tara Bray, author of "Why Won't the Landlord Take Visa?," offers solutions and suggestions based on the experiences she and others had after graduation. She explains investments, student loans and other financial topics. Bray said people should be more concerned with where they "picture themselves in twenty years" and less afraid of making bad choices.

Bristow agrees. People figure out what they want to do based on three things: interests, skills and values. Bristow explained that interests and skills are more consistent than values. A person's values vary depending on whether they "want to save the world" or simply get a job to pay the rent.
