It has been awhile since underground hip-hop has proven true to its name, so when Hieroglyphics came into town Friday, it was a big deal. The Senator Theatre could not have prepared enough for the powerful show that Hieroglyphics would perform. Before the show, people mingled indoors, dancing, buying merchandise or getting beers at the bar upstairs, paying no attention to the theater's hot temperature.

In the intimate setting that is the Blue Room, the show starts with a couple who have sneaked into the empty theater to get high and mess around.

Guitar legend strums, kicks off huge world music festival

Legendary guitarist Tommy Emmanuel got the 15th annual Chico World Music Festival off to a fantastic start. Every seat in Laxson Auditorium was taken Friday night, as Emmanuel brought his acoustic guitar and storming riffs to the stage. People from all over California gathered to watch him play, including Santa Clara resident Paul Keller.
