A man in a sport utility vehicle shot at a man and his passenger in a Honda, killing the 19-year-old driver and wounding the 17-year-old passenger about 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of East 20th Street and Park Avenue. The driver, Shoua Her, was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was immediately rushed to Enloe Medical Center, where he is expected to recover, said Sgt.
Ex-instructor gets jail sentence for pot

A judge sentenced a former Hebrew instructor to 180 days in county jail, three years of formal felony probation and ordered her to pay $5,802 in fines and fees Thursday for possession of marijuana for sale. The prosecution argued that Elaine Ilana Meiri should serve time in a state prison, but because she has a 12-year-old son and no previous criminal record, the judge reduced her sentence to formal probation.
