The women's volleyball team improved its winning streak to four Friday after outlasting No. 12 UC San Diego in a five set match.

The Wildcats started out the first set slowly and were at a 10-1 deficit. After a timeout the 'Cats regrouped and closed the gap to within five at 18-13, which seemed to be the momentum shifter.

After an enthusiastic run and kill by Lindsay Macias, the game was tied at 21. The 'Cats recorded two vital aces in the final points of the first set, and they prevailed 25-23.

The second set was back and forth until the Tritons reached the 10-point mark. From there, UC San Diego was on the offensive and was able to win the second set 25-20.

The 'Cats took the third set 25-19 and the Tritons evened things out in the fourth with a 25-16 win.

The fifth and final set to 15 was as intense as it gets, and with an 8-8 tie the game was a few dozen hits away from an upset. With a few blocks and a couple crucial kills, the Wildcats closed out their opponents and won the decisive set 15-11.

Macias had team highs with 17 kills and 16 digs in the home victory. Erica Brick finished with a game-high 48 assists and 11 digs.

The 'Cats look to continue their winning streak next weekend as they face San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay.
