Obama presidency uncovers veiled racism, intolerance

America wants change. Well, at least 53 percent of Americans want change. The rest want to continue repeating history and living in ignorance because apparently it's "blissful." I personally don't see the bliss in living in a country that's full of discrimination, has a poor economy and has a bad reputation with other countries.
Editorial: Proposition 8 passing hurts gays, society
Not only should Proposition 8 be overturned, it should have never been passed. But for anyone who likes their civil rights served with a touch of irony, this election was symbolic perfection. As America elected a half-black man as its new president, a ballot measure that allows a constitutional amendment banning gays to marry passed in California.

Kids aren't having sex because they want to be just like Carrie Bradshaw from "Sex and the City," they're doing it because - gasp - it's supposedly quite fun. Adolescents who watch a lot of "sexy" TV are twice as likely to either get pregnant or impregnate someone in the following three years, according to a RAND Corporation press release.

Thumbs up to not having to shave during the winter. Finally, the pressure is off the ladies to constantly have silky smooth legs. Thumbs down to pickles. They get thrown onto plates as a complement, but end up contaminating all the food around it. Thumbs up to the Hokey Pokey.

While the Republican nominee for president made headlines as a self-dubbed "maverick" who reached "across the aisles" historically, red states and districts went blue this election cycle. And even though moderates have favored the Democratic candidate in each of the past five elections, President-elect Barack Obama gained support of more voters in the ideological "middle" than John Kerry and Al Gore, according to a recent Pew Research Center poll.

During Election Night, my fear of President-elect Barack Obama not winning was replaced with mixed emotions: the great surprise of a black man finally becoming president and the relief that a more capable leader had been finally elected to run the country.

Do you know why you are proud to be an American? You better, or I suggest you leave. We live in strong structures, drink clean water and eat uncontaminated food. We enjoy constant electricity and gas that provide great comfort. We are protected by trustworthy police officers and a fair justice system.
