Chico State students finally got a taste of winter as rain and wind rolled into the area, today. Gusts of wind reached over 50 mph, according to inteilliweather.com.

There were also sporadic power outages and malfunctioning traffic signals.

The storm, which consists of Arctic air and moisture remnants of Typhoon Melor according to KPAY 1290 meteorologist Anthony Watts, is expected to last through Wednesday and has already brought about .5 inch of rain to Chico.

Winds in parts of the Central Valley could reach sustained speeds in the 25 to 35 mph range with gusts locally of up to 55 mph. Winds in the foothills and mountains reach speeds up to 65 mph or more.

In a press release, the Chico Police Department advised residents to prepare for power outages by having sufficient food, fresh water, flashlights and batteries.
