A male Chico State student was attacked and robbed at around 11:30 p.m. Sept. 21 on the bike path in the area of Shurmer Gym and the golf greens.

The man suffered minor injuries when he was knocked off his bicycle by two white or Hispanic male adults wearing dark clothing, said University Police Chief Eric Reichel in a campus-wide e-mail. The suspects demanded and were able to get money from the student.

University Police happened to be in the general area and the suspects may have seen the officers, Reichel said.

The suspects fled on foot toward the tennis courts and crossed the railroad tracks toward Nord Avenue, but University Police and responding Chico police officers were unable to locate the suspects, Reichel said.

The victim sustained minor injuries, but his injuries did not require medical attention at the time of the incident, according to the e-mail.

One suspect was described as an 18 to 20-year-old white or Hispanic male adult, six-feet tall and thin stature, Reichel said. The other subject was described as a white or Hispanic male adult also around 18 to 20 years old standing about 5 foot 7 inches, wearing a dark colored T-shirt, baggy shorts and dark baseball-type hat.

During the last month, there have been similar types of assaults and robberies on the campus or close to the campus with the suspects in these incidents appearing to be of similar age, Reichel said.

He warned students of the danger of traveling the bike path at night.

“I know the bike pathway adjacent to the railroad tracks and campus is convenient as a route to and from the campus, but I would ask all of you to please be very cautious if you use this pathway at night,” Reichel said.
